Players take their turns at the same time.
Players in seven swords all take their turns at the same time, and while some interactions between players involve a little bit of timing coordination, this allows up to 7 players to play each round simultaneously. So while adding players does add some time to the game, the time is not significantly affected by adding more players.
A Closer Look: Why this game uses simultaneous action?
I have always liked longer games because of the depth and strategy they bring with them, but with a family that included two little girls it always seemed like there was just not enough time to play those kind of games. We would put the kids to bed and then have maybe a couple hours to play a game. It was a challenge to find games that fit into our busy lives that felt like they both were going somewhere and were something we could play in the limited time we had.
Some favorite and notable titles use simultaneous mechanics very effectively. and though it does have its limitations, the effect is most significant when playing with larger groups making for a much faster paced game.
